bodies and accidents

bodies and accidents

Choreographer Georg Blaschke and video and media artist Jan Machacek take the work of British painter Francis Bacon (1909-1992) as the starting point for their new joint work. The body as Bacon’s central motif also forms the basis of their approach.

Bodies and Accidents responds to the work of Francis Bacon with the means of performance and video art, using movement, space, sound and installation to reflect the intense, often distorted depictions of bodies and portraits, but also the artist’s method in the act of painting itself. Beyond the museum reception of the artworks, Bodies and Accidents opens up a new perspective on the images that Bacon created as a mirror of human existence – images characterized by deformation, imperfection, but also great sensual intensity.
