Jan Machacek is a media and performance artist.
His works form intersections of body, space and projection.
He is concerned with questions of individual scope for action in a reality dominated by media and information.

Machacek’s works have been shown at the Wiener Festwochen, the Marstalltheater (Munich) and the Laboratorio Arte Alameda (Mexico City), among others, and have received several awards, including the Diagonale Graz and the International Prize for Performance in Trento.

Machacek has been working with musician and programmer Oliver Stotz for decades. He has also worked with many artists from different disciplines, with musicians Angélica Castelló and Martin Siewert, performers Edwarda Gurrola, Anat Stainberg, Nicholas Hoffman and Elina Lautamäki, visual artists Sabine Marte and Hanna Hollmann, choreographers Frans Poelstra and Deborah Hazler and lighting designers Sabine Wiesenbauer and Bartek Kubiak.

Machacek was responsible for the projections and scenography of numerous performances, dance and theater pieces, including those by the dramaturge Gin Müller and the choreographer Georg Blaschke.
